Commemoration of Taras Shevchenko

The channel TIT took part in commemoration of Taras Shevchenko in Chernihiv region. The memorial service to mark the anniversary of stopping the coffin with the body of Shevchenko on his way to Kaniv was hold on March 17^th at the memorial sign in front of the Savior Transfiguration Church (Nizhyn). 154 years after Shevchenko’s death people of Nizhyn gathered at the saint place to pray for Kobzar and Ukraine. The mayor of Nizhyn Anatoliy Linnyk and the head of  the Charitable Foundation “Nizhyn” Mykola Shkurko addressed the audience with their speeches. After that there was a concert where the choir of children music school and the choir of veterans took part. Vasyl Kyrylych from Drohobych was playing the old-world bandura.

·         A.Linnyk: For all the Ukrainians Taras Shevchenko remains the symbol, the soul of the nation which shows that you must keep love to your native land in your heart, even if you are far away.

·         M.Shkurko: In 1861 the coffin with the Shevchenko’s body was here. In 1991 the posthumous memorial sign was opened. In 1999 this church began to celebrate prayers. In 2002 these crosses, that now are shining in the sun, were consecrated. And today we are together to commemorate T.Shevchenko and to discuss with other businessmen the way of repairing this church in summer.

After finishing the meeting businessmen of Nizhyn forgathered to discuss financial questions of restoration the Savior Transfiguration Church.
